‘Christmas Truce – The Illusion Tree’
The “Christmas Truce” was the ceasefire that was called during World War I on various fronts in 1914 for the days around Christmastime.
Christmas is traditionally the time of year when people feel inclined to foster peace on earth. They teach their children to respect positive concepts like Goodness, Justice, Generosity.
La “Tregua di Natale” (“Christmas Truce” in inglese) è il cessate al fuoco nei giorni attorno al Natale del 1914 in diverse zone del fronte della Prima Guerra Mondiale.

“Christmas Truce – The Illusion Tree” transforms one of the main symbols of Christmas into an installation designed to make us reflect on certain aspects of human behavior, on the inconsistencies, the injustices, inequalities, and the illusions we adhere to.

With these reflections at the foundation of the installation, Penelope calls into play Carl Sagan’s book, “Pale Blue Dot”, which has provided a guiding light for all her artistic explorations. The astronomer’s words are transformed into objects which symbolize human passions, and into words that remind us just how tiny our microcosm is in the face of the vast cosmic arena.
